    The source of Trump's strange claim comes from the fact that FBI requested the wiretapping of Trump Towers. Why would FBI request that? Because of the Trump-Russia connection. Ha!
    Rather, the allegation made by various news sources is that, in connection with a multi-agency intelligence investigation of Russian interference with the presidential election, the FBI sought an order from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court authorizing them to monitor transactions between two Russian banks and four persons connected with the Trump campaign. The Guardian‘s report alleges that initial applications submitted over the summer, naming “four members of the Trump team suspected of irregular contacts with Russian officials,” were rejected by the FISC. But according to the BBC, a narrower order naming only the Russian banks as direct targets was ultimately approved by the FISC in October. While the BBC report suggests that the surveillance was meant to ferret out “transfers of money,” the Mensch article asserts that a “warrant was granted to look at the full content of emails and other related documents that may concern US persons.”

    Probably a lot of people are following this, but this is yet another example of his amazing stupidity.

    So Mark Levin, a nutjob conspiracy theorist and rightwing idiot, strings together a few factual claims made by New York times and Washington posts in other to "connect the dots", i.e., to make stuff up about Obama wiretapping Trump.
    Then Breitbart covers it:

    This is all using publicly available information and of course, the reporting on Breitbart and by Levin are clearly bullshit. The above article on breitbart quotes "The Obama administration files a request ... to monitor communications involving Donald Trump and several advisers" where by "the Obama administration" they actually mean FBI and by Donald Trump they actually mean "Trump Tower" and by "several advisers" they actually mean "Russia". Donald Trump reads this and since he is pissed off at the recent revelations about Jeff Sessions, he think this is legit info and tweets about it at 6 am, like an idiot.
