    DUI Checkpoints

There are a ton of issues with DUI checkpoints. I won't even begin to list them as someone else can do a better job than I can.

But I came across this today and it was interesting:

Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my Uncle Jack off a horse." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse."

That sounds real witty until the SCotUS decides to vote that cops don't have to know about the law and if they violate your constitutional rights out of ignorance, well, that's just too bad.

Suddenly this amusing act of mild-protesting (and let's face it, for 99% of the people, that's what this is - I mean, SOME white people might be able to get away with this, but a black guy in a Bentley would get drug out his window and arrested for resisting arrest) becomes the starting point of a terrible story being told to the same group of inmates you're locked up with for the next 5-7 years.

Until there's a realistic change in the application of police towards citizens, this is just an amusing thing to think about.
If violence is not your last resort, you have failed to resort to enough of it.

The cop in the video Aristotle posted clearly knew something was up and he made the choice not to bother with it. I suspect most of the time if you did that stunt (which is completely legitimate and valid) this is what would happen:

In reality DUI checkpoints are money tills for the government. If you are foolish, or unlucky, enough to get pulled into one of these things you had better pray to whatever god you worship that you're not about to get arrested. The numbers are staggering on how ineffective these things are at actually getting drunk drivers off the road, and the people they have manning them are typically horrible people to begin with.

Watching things like this make me extremely uncomfortable. I can't believe this continues to happen and as a country we don't seem to give a damn.

The consequences of giving a damn are greater than the perceived consequences of not giving a damn.

The police lobby is one of the most powerful, literally and figuratively, in the nation. They have guns and money. Their fringe supporters are just as rabid and insane as the KKK or other hate groups. If you dare question things like I posted above you will be denounced/criticized/etc. If that fails they will show up at your place of employment, they will try to get you charged with a crime. I recently defended an individual who was charged with a minor crime for pointing a gun at a crowd of them, who showed up at his house, at 11pm.

I wonder how long until some tea party type militias decide roaming the country killing cops is the only way to push back?

I feel like that is where we are headed.

Insanity on both sides where neither will refuse to find a middle ground.

Are DUI checkpoints a money maker? I wasn't aware DUI was a money maker. It seems like there is so much cost with jail and trials and everything.

How do they make money off them?
