Threshold Backers - Fund Threshold's Third Decade

DURATION EXTENDED. NEW DEADLINE: Sunday, January 6, 2013

Threshold was created before the days of Kickstarter and IndieGogo, and as a result nobody had a chance to become an official, lifetime backer of Threshold. Discussions that took place during our first ever Threshold Reunion Server event inspired us to remedy that.

The support we have received from thousands of players over the years is what has kept Threshold and Frogdice in operation for nearly two decades. There is no replacement for that support. The purpose of the Threshold Backers is to give people a chance to back the next stage of future Threshold development that will take us into our third decade and beyond. We will use this support to fund:
    • Content, Systems, and Quality of Life improvements to Threshold.
    • Continued top notch management of our awesome community.
    • Even more RP events and story lines.
    • Staff to do all of the above.

Registrations made for any of your characters during this promotion count towards a single "Backer Total." Further, any benefits you earn are for any and all current and future characters (when applicable of course, and you must of course remain in good standing with the game).

There are many tiers so Threshold Backers can choose their level of support. We will have a backer list kept in game on a plaque in the Announcement room and also in a help file. This list will also be kept in a sticky thread on the forums. Names will be broken up by tier on the list. You can choose to have your character name(s), real name, both, or neither (if you wish to be anonymous) appear on the list.

We are also opening the backer rewards for discussion.

We would like to add a few more rewards based on the feedback we receive from our incredibly loyal and awesome players. Please give this some thought and share your ideas.

None of these tiers are final yet! We are going to add more stuff and make adjustments based on feedback.

We cannot thank you enough for your awesome support over the last 16 years. We intend to be around for at least another 16.

    FAQ

Q: What types of registrations count?
A: Normal registrations as well as register extras. Register services do not count.

Q: If I register for 2 different characters, are their totals added together?
    A: Yes

Q: If I reroll or make a new character in the future, does that character get the same backer tier benefits?
    A: Yes

Q: Can I register some now, and add to it later during the time this promotion is running?
A: Yes. Feel free to do that. We will keep a running total of any and all registrations you make for any of your characters (or that friends make for you in your name) and add them all together. As long as they are made before the end of the deadline, they will count together.

Q: Can I pay in installments?
A: Unfortunately, no. We have modeled this after Kickstarter/Indiegogo which have a limited time span. The idea is to fund a specific plan of development: in this case a detailed 6 month content plan as well as the goal of paying for more permanent staff on Threshold.

Q: Can I remain anonymous and not be included on the backer lists?
A: Absolutely. Just add a note to your registration or mudmail, PM, or email (threshold@thresholdrpg.com) me. Let me know what you want or do not want included.

Q: Can I have my name listed at a lower tier than my actual tier? I want people to know I supported but the exact amount I spent is my personal business.
A: Not a problem. If you want your name or character name listed at a lower tier, that's fine.

Q: I don't really like these backer rewards.
A: Suggest some more! Also, keep in mind that in the long run the biggest reward is the amazing things we will be able to do for Threshold with the additional funding support. You will be remembered forever as someone who contributed at a turning point in Threshold's growth and development. Lastly, that wasn't a question!

Q: 3 weeks is not enough time to save up and budget for this. Can you extend the duration?
A: Yes. Due to overwhelming request, we have extended the duration to add to your THRESHOLD BACKER total until November 30, 2012. Keep in mind that the Fall 2012 registration special part ends October 31st though.

Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my Uncle Jack off a horse." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse."

    I have two questions:

First: The initial post says "during this promotion." Does that mean that the "Threshold Backer" feature is a limited time offer comparable to registration specials?

Second: The initial post reads "[r]egistrations made". Does that mean only basic registration or do register services and register extras count toward the backer total?

    Thank you.

Yes. This is a limited time offer. The Threshold Backer is a unique opportunity that will end October 31st. It is modeled after Kickstarter/IndieGogo. We have some specific goals that we want to work towards which is the purpose of the fund raising. There is a limited time to be a part of this and as a result be memorialized forever.

As with all reg specials, extras count but services do not.

Holy Crap!!! Golden Crown Tier & Above have insanely amazing rewards!!!

A few minor ideas & suggestions occur to me.

First, the Golden & Aetherial seem to have two amazing in game rewards, while the platinum just has the mount. The custom mount sounds crazy awesome, but it could probably use a consumable reward too. Something neat like backer supplies: summon 1 potion of extra healing and 1 potion of mana (both undroppable, 24 hour cooldown).

Second, there's a huge jump from Platinum Orb Tier to Aetherial Tier. Maybe a Patron Tier could be established at ~ $2500. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time thinking of rewards appropriate for this level. Maybe some sort of custom autoloading "key to the city" type item that had a few bonuses, like the guild specific bonuses some of the special reg. items usually come with (albeit probably on a longer cooldown since you'd have this forever), plus some other totally new second ability appropriate for this tier.

Are all of the tier incentives awarded to every character you have now and create in the future, or only to the character you register the money for?

We'd love to do that but it wouldn't really work for fundraising. We're trying to closely emulate the Kickstarter/IndieGoGo model.

Is the problem that the time period is too short? We're basically giving folks a little under a month.

Would this be more viable if we extended at least the BACKERS part until November (while keeping the reg special part - TC shop + locked xp) to the original deadline of Oct 31?

Also, please feel free to share your feedback either here (either by post or via PM) or email me at threshold@thresholdrpg.com

We want to make the THRESHOLD BACKERS something really cool and historic that plays a vital role in giving Threshold the financial foundation needed to move forward over the next 6+ months and beyond.

And don't forget that we want to add a few more perks to the tiers. We specifically stopped at a certain point so we'd have room to implement some of YOUR suggestions.

    Looks like that means all.

The backer rewards are for ALL current and future characters.

If you register $50 for one character, $50 for another, the $100 tier applies to both characters. If you make a third or a reroll years from now, they get the benefits as well.

Basically, the BACKER rewards are connected to *YOU* the person and apply to *ALL* of your characters.
