The "any more" implies that perhaps it used to, but I posit that such a thing has never happened. Even if it's merely an inherent bias, there's always something there. Most notably, there's a filtering of the news - what's "important" and what's "trivial" - and that, in itself, can have major implications (maybe the news service considers armed robbery noteworthy and unarmed not - you'll get the impression that every thief carries a gun).
