    2012 Summer Olympics

    NBC Coverage sucks.

    Tape delay sucks.

James Bond + Queen + Corgis in the opening ceremony was amazing.

Glad to see Lochte kick Phelps ass. Maybe Phelps should have been training his ass off like Lochte instead of taking bong hits at college frat parties.

Far too many American athletes are not just chokers, but they don't seem to give a crap about it. I am continually amazed by what a bunch of stoner, don't-give-a-craps our swimmers are - especially the women swimmers. They are all so "happy to be here" that they don't care when they choke, underperform, miss an opportunity for a gold... Total disgrace.

Don't they see what's been going on with China over the last 3 Olympics?

Considering they are also becoming our biggest economic and geopolitical rival, how about we start giving a shit?

Do we need the threat of a nuclear war to make our athletes have a little pride?

    Disgraceful.

Honestly, i think Phelps let him take it.

Phelps just needs one to have the most. So why is he going to exert himself in ALL of the competitions? He's going to get the gold in the relay. BAM! Winnah!

    No gold in the relay.

Another day of choking for the American athletes.

Why the FUCK was Lochte the anchor for the 4x100 relay? He has the *EIGHTH* fastest 100 m freestyle time in the US. Why didn't they let Lezak anchor it when he: 1) has a faster 100m time than Lochte 2) Has experience anchoring the 4x100 3) Fucking destroyed the French in 2008 in one of the most epicly amazing swims in US swimming history.

Women's gymnastics has an idiotic new rule where you can't have more than 2 people qualify for the all-around from the same country.

USA finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the qualifying and only 2 get to go. The person who finished 24th overall was more than 6 FULL POINTS behind our 4th place gymnast.

    What a joke.

The Olympics are gradually becoming utter garbage. It is a huge bummer.

    I can't let this go.

    1) Lochte was out until 2am the night before celebrating and said he was tired the next day. WHAT THE FUCK. He also swam 3 races today.

    2) Lochte has the 8th fastest 100m freestyle time of the Americans. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    3) Lochte has no experience in this race. Zero.

    Utterly stupid.

I can't believe they didn't let Lezak anchor this when he was a FUCKING BOSS in 2008 and still has faster times at 100m free than Lochte.

All for stupid drama to put Phelps/Lochte together when other races they are going at each other.

    FUCKING LAME. UGH!

I've been disgusted by the olympics this year. The opening ceremony (sans the James Bond thing) was crap. NBC SUCKS.

How the Men swimmers choked so horribly bad in the relay is beyond me.

At least Handball has been pretty cool.

    Ugh.
There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here; or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try to talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that left. I gotta live with that. Rehabilitated? It's just a bullshit word. So go ahead and stamp your forms, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a shit.

And now the Men's Gymnastics team massively choked. They were the gold medal favorite, highest qualifying team score, and finished 5th.

    FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!

    China got gold of course.

    DOUBLE FAIL!!!!!!

Finally got to watch the men's gymnastics. Utter disgust.

Our two "best" gymnasts, Leyva and Orosco basically killed us in three routines. "Hollywood" Muchulak (sp) added another.
    1. Leyva fell on pommel horse which was a minimum 1.5 point total deduction.
    2. Orosco "fell" twice on pommel horse (he didn't fall off, but lost his grip and fell on his crotch) twice for another 2+ point deduction.
    3. Then Orosco fell on his butt in vault for another 2+ points.
    4. "Hollywood" fell forward onto his hands on floor for another point.

That 6.5 points right there would have been enough to beat China.

    Totally weaksauce.

Missy Franklin rocked in the women's 100m backstroke though. Winning gold with < 15 minute break from having to do a semi right before for another event. Uber.

I think its funny that she trains in Colorado and everyone says she needs to move to California or Florida to be with all the top coaches.

You mean the top coaches teaching Lochte how to choke? The top coaches teaching the rest of our women's team to giggle when they underperform?

Sounds like Missy Franklin made the smart move staying away from these "top coaches."

At least Greavers maintained US men's dominance in 100m, and we got gold + silver in that event.

I loved watching May-Walsh in beach volleyball. I really, really, really, really hope they win gold and hopefully keep their streak going of never having lost even a single set in the Olympics. They have an awesome killer instinct.

Dude, the Men's Gymnastics was putrid. PUTRID. I stopped watching.

I'm with you though, Missy Franklin is AMAZING, and I love her. Especially since she swims like an old vet, even though she's only 17. She'll have at least another Olympics in her, and I hope she dominates like she has been.

Also - Phelps is a monster. That breaststroke comeback was absolutely astounding. He's going to DOMINATE that field.

Good night for us (8/1/12 - Wednesday - Day 5) but the damn Chinese kept pace. They are still 1 ahead of us in total count and a brutal 5 ahead in golds.

The women's 4x200 free relay was great. Nathan Adrian's 100m free victory was awesome. So nice to have that event gold back in our hands for the first time since Matt Biondi.

Both of our men's gymnastics choked hard on pommel horse again. Ugh. What is it with that event? Dannel Leyva was able to rally for the bronze which was a great accomplishment. He was a full 2 points behind Uchimura on horse, so I don't think it cost him a gold, but definitely silver. (even with Leyva's big error, he was only 1.3 pts lower than his 10th place qualifying score on pommel horse).

The sad thing is if Orosco and Leyva don't tank the pommel horse, its likely they take silver AND bronze, and we're even with China right now.

But what bums me out most of all is that Leyva choked hard in qualifying on parallel bars - the event he is reigning world champion on. He finished the night tonight 1st in p-bars and 1st on high bar. That's a freaking amazing way to finish the night. #1 on two events in a row. He beat out Ukraine for the bronze by a mere .26. Incredible job. It is sad that he won't get to compete on parallel bars in the individual event finals though .

I really, really, really hope Leyva can duplicate his work tonight and take gold on the high bar. It would be nice for him to return home champion in at least one event.

Orosco... wow... he bombed out completely. He killed us with his disasters on pommel horse and vault on team night. He bombed himself on individual all around. And he failed to qualify for ANY individual events. Yikes.

Watching Leyva charge back last night was pretty awesome. I missed the early events where he got behind, so all I saw was him rocking the last few to sneak onto the podium. It would have been nice to see Orozco get rolling too. I know gymnasts get hurt plenty, but the flashback footage of Orozco tearing his achilles tendon and Leyva smashing his face on the high bar was rough. It would have been nice to see them both end up with medals.

What's up with Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh losing a set though?! They suck! (glad they came back to win the match)
