Also, insurance IS a heavily regulated entity in this country. For the most part each state regulates itself. North Carolina is one of the most heavily regulated states and we're better off for it. The difference however is that the regulation comes, primarily, in terms of minimum coverages and fair business practices. With these regulations known, companies are allowed to decide to opt-in or opt-out of doing business in NC. They have a CHOICE. Nobody is making them provide coverage in NC, they elect to do so, and in choosing to do so, they accept the regulations of such.

With a FEDERAL mandate on coverage, the only option available is to move to a different country. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have to make the decision of becoming a citizen of another country to have a choice. The whole purpose in our having many varied states is so there could be DIFFERENCES from one to the other. Each governing itself. Federal mandates of insurance are an intrusion on State rights. Over time it seems the individual states have forgotten they are meant to govern themselves. Luckily insurance is one of the domains that they still do so.
