Once we open the door to allow government to tell insurance companies what they MUST do, we leave it hanging wide open for government to mandate what they MUST NOT do. I think giving them this power is dangerous.
We all have a choice as to what insurance company we pay into. Most of us go with the work option, because our employer typically makes it cost less for us. If, however, we do not like the insurance offered us by our employer, we have the ability to go get insurance elsewhere. Including insurance that covers BC. If we choose to stay with the employer's insurance, we agree to a bunch of statements about what will and won't be covered.
Incidentally, I don't necessarily see this as a gender issue. As a nurse, I have seen birth control pills prescribed to sexually agressive men, and I have known women on Viagra for BP.
