Regardless of the humor and irony in that little article, teachers get paid pretty well. Unlike babysitters they aren't evaluated by the parents. They get holidays and summers off to make EVEN MORE MONEY should they so desire. Save for the rare dangerous inner city school district the job is relatively safe. The weather conditions are pretty consistent as it is an indoor job. Benefits are good. Retirement is good.
Also teaching is one of those jobs wherein you can point to poor productivity as a reason that you need a raise.
That article also uses the term baby sitter but means more of a private Nanny, which few of us can afford, and if we could we'd have them home school our children. This is public education, it's not supposed to economically cripple the people who live in the good school districts.
