Today
Today, for me, has been the worst day in terms of this forum's intolerance and attitude.
Time and again people seem to forget the fact that not everyone here has grown up in the same culture/country/religion and arrogantly and insensitively bash to pieces history, culture and social identity that people hold dear.
There is literally no point to this. You achieve nothing but hurt and anger.
Debate is fine, but on almost every single occassion it descends into howling, hooting baiting directed at one individual or another.
Is this the community that we pride ourselves on? Is this kind of stuff seriously acceptable?
We all come from a wide variety of backgrounds, I am an atheist left-of-centre Scot living in England. One of my best friends from here is Egyptian, another is Finnish, one is American and my fiancee is English.
The internet is wonderful and brilliant, but it's easy to lose track of the people we talk to behind the screens.
Can we please just have a little more tolerance of each other?
PS - I realise it's usually never the intention to hurt someone, but taking a second just to think about what we say can be all the difference in the world.
