    Michael Jackson Dead At 50

    RIP Michael Jackson

I am sad. While his later behavior has always been weird and what he did to himself with all those surgeries, he was a great singer. I hope now that his kids will go to their mothers and maybe have some sort of normalcy in their lives.

I posted this on TMS before I saw the post here:

Michael Jackson made a significant impact on the world through his art. Music, like any other form of art, has real value to us as people. It is a shame that people in their 20s and younger only know Michael Jackson as a freak and possible pedophile. Those of us in our 30s or older remember the 70s/80s/90s Michael Jackson who was truly a gifted artist and performer.

While Jackson's music isn't my favorite, this is a grave lost to the music community. Jackson of the 70s, 80s and the beginning of the 90s was a true revolutionist - re-inventing pop and R&B, inventing one of the most famous dance moves ever (if not the most famous of them all) and sweeping millions of people all over the world off their feet with his rhythms.

It's hard for me to say he will be missed because he stopped creating normal music about 15 years ago, but I can only hope that many young artists will try to make their own music, and re-invent music genres as Jackson had.
I'm free to do whatever I, whatever I choose and I'll sing the blues if I want

I feel compelled to join hands at a candle-lit vigil and sing a verse of "Heal the World."

    Ugh.

Michael Jackson is alot like star wars, IMO. he started out well, Thriller was empire strikes back, the next album had some ewoks in it, but I guess it was okay, ( I really dont know or care)....

And then He George Lucased his career, by just being a really fucked up mentally ill human being.

The new star wars took any enjoyment I have out of the old star wars, they were that bad.

Michael Jackson Molesting Children and becoming a circus show for 20 years pretty much ruins anything he accomplished hither-to for me.

I wish it was just drugs, or drinking, or even getting in fights with people or something, but really, the children thing really is one of those things I will never be able to give people a pass on.

so in a way, Im kinda glad that if there is any dignity left in the man's legacy, that now he wont be able to screw it up more.

And now Carrot top and Mickey Rourke can share the "worlds worst plastic surgery" trophy.

Is it his fault? Yes, and no, does it matter? not really.

    HOWEVER!!!!

I did buy Thriller when I was like 8 and I DID break out the cardboard with my friends and try to headspin to that album, which probably accounts for alot of my own mental illnesses.

I don't have a lot of nice things to say about MJ because of the freakshow his life had become BUT...

When Michael Jackson was at his most famous, I don't ever remember thinking about "black" music or "white" music. He and Prince both shook up the music scene and people liked them regardless of previous musical tastes.

(In our culture, we deal with tragedy often through humor. So read this with that in mind.)

Farrah Fawcett gets to the pearly gates, and St. Peter says, "You have inspired millions with your public fight against cancer. As such, we have decided to grant you one wish!"

Farrah thinks for a second, and says, "I wish for all the children of the world to be safe!"

Suddenly, Michael Jackson appears next to her.

    Oh goddammit.
