I just tried the program mentioned in that ad.

    Double Twist

I must admit, I can see WHY apple would want to shut that program down. It is PHENOMENAL. I would suggest it is a MUST for anyone with a mac.
Sure, I got a secret. More 'n one. Don't seem likely I tell 'em to you now, do it? Anyone off Titan colony knows better than to talk to strangers. You're talkin' loud enough for the both of us, though, ain't ya? I've met a dozen like you. Skipped off-home early. Minor graft jobs here and there. Spent some time in the lockdown, but less than you claim. And you're, what, a petty thief with delusions standing? Sad little king of a sad little hill.

Not only is it a piece of software that takes a crack at a monopoly, it's fully open source AND has the structure to be easily extensible (yeah, I clicked on the link Pae gave and went straight to "Developers"... call it natural curiosity!). Anyone can add his own phone, MP3 player, whatever, to the DoubleTwist arsenal. They can quite rightly boast "sync to any device". Yep, I can completely see why Apple don't like it.

I've been unable to send mp3 files through the system however. Can't find out why, for all I can gather I'm supposed to be able too.

However, pictures - not a problem.

I'm not sure I really understand the purpose of this program. What exactly does it do? From the demo video, as far as I can tell it lets you copy files to various devices, and gives you easy "send to" functionality. Is copying files to these devices really something you need custom software for? I use Ubuntu linux, so I've already got the send to functionality(via email and instant message) built right into my os.

I don't have any device that I'd use this for, so maybe I'm just missing something.

Apple / iTunes and even iPhoto are very controlling in their programs. It's too complicated in my mind to get your files out of their programs (often requiring going through the file system to find the root file or having go through an 'export' process first).

Also, try copying the same music from your itunes to multiple devices and back again. Oh DRM.. how much we hate thee.

Removing your files from these programs (while great programs) is often difficult. Even as a mac fanboy myself, it frustrates me about apple's programs.
