I am aware that this will only paint me further as a contrarian pcer in some people’s minds, but why does a sexually active 14-year-old girl lose the ability to be honest? Why couldn’t the 12-year-old boy be a liar? Or the 16-year-old boy or the 14-year-old boy?

I really do believe it is important to sit back and look at our assumptions and generalizations regularly to see whether we’re letting lazy stereotypes influence the way we think. I find - more often than I like - that I sink into talk back radio reactions because it is easier and funnier and crueler and wittier and ‘more real’ to make nasty and misanthropic statements than it is to hold back an opinion that is considered and boring god-forbid ‘pc’. But calling this girl a liar because she’s a slut – which is what the inference of this whole media storm is, reinforces the meme that women cannot be sexually active without losing or lessening their other virtues.

Remember, this girl was only 15 years old when she gave birth.

I can’t think of many men that don’t boast about the time when they were 12 and spent their seed on some pre-teens chest. It’s such a fucking banal question, but why is it cool for a 12 year old boy to masturbate inside a pre-teen girl’s body till he comes, but an act that condemns the girl as non ‘virtuous’ or non ‘innocent’ and therefore somehow ‘less’ than another girl.

People who suggest these things, don’t seem to understand that the girls they came on or came in probably would have as productive and interesting and intellectually challenging lives if only they weren’t judged and ostracized as sluts and whores and liars and if only they didn’t perceive themselves that way.

They perceive themselves this way because other people perceive them this way, which means people like YOU perceive them this way. So stop it. Why contribute to something destructive when you don’t have to, even if that means you’re *omg* being pc.

Yep Riek, I didn't catch that post. But that doesn't in any way change what I was saying in my post. You posted a source that demonstrated she was lying. Ari said that she was lying because she ''wasn't 'innocent' or 'virtuous'. This is a single case, an anecdote. It is the sort of case that is used to 'prove a rule' except it doesn't.

I agree with Malacasta on this one. Admittedly she was very passionate about it but people should be. Teenage girls are very impressionable and self-esteem is so easily broken at young ages, especially when there is a lot of things to compound those impressions laid on them. Which more often than not there are plenty of layers of negativity in any teenage girl's lives.

It's not feminist crap - it's more just an understanding that teenage girls are very vulnerable and needy at those ages. If anything your argument only proves Malacasta's point, she tries to make a valid statement to try to open someone's eyes and you write it off on feminism.

P.S. As an aside, I am not a feminist. I think most of them go too far. But I've been a teenage girl before, I'm raising a girl who is almost a teenager, and my neice who is one. I speak from experience. If you found out your little girl was sexually active, would you call her a slut?

Having sex for attention makes her an attention whore, not a slut.

I dont know what the exact stats are for sluthood, but what ever they are I am sure this girl meets them.

3+ sexual partners at 14-15, a baby, an unknown father, and baby daddy drama is a slut in my book. So yes, if I had a daughter, niece, or grandchild that met these hall of fame stats, I'd stamp them as sluts too.

My point isn't that this girl isn't promiscuous when it seems she clearly is, my point is that calling a girl a slut (or an equivalent) does nothing but make the situation worse. Girls like this need help, not judgements.
