Brazil girl, alleged rape victim, aborts twins

Brazil girl, alleged rape victim, aborts twins
The procedure on the 9-year-old girl draws complaints from Catholic church

OMG, how crappy is that headline?
She's an alleged rape victim is she? Because 9 year olds can actually have consensual sex with males old enough to produce sperm can they?
And as for the catholic church. They really have a problem with children, don't they?

My god. That headline is horrendous. How is it alleged? A 9 year old girl can't consent to sex. That's outrageous.

And as for the Catholic Church. Wow... what an issue to take on.

Perhaps the Catholic Church gave up compassion for Lent...

I think legally the writer must include "alleged" until a guilty verdict has been reached in a court of law.

The step father is the alleged rapist, but the girls was pregnant with twins. She got pregnant by being penetrated. A nine year old can't consent to that therefore she was raped.

If you found someone dismembered, bled out with a carving knife lying next to the body, you wouldn't say they were an 'alleged murder victim'.

Probably it was a stupid error on behalf of the headline writer, but it has the effect of making it look like the 9 year old might be lying about getting raped.

Since the age of consent in Brazil is 14, that is obviously a case of statutory rape.

They have to use the word "alleged" when talking about the perpetrator, not the victim. So the suspect at this point would be an alleged rapist, but the victim is definitely a rape victim. Of course I'm not a lawyer...I'm just applying logic to the situation.

I was about to post this.

The headline writer needs to be slapped hard and often.
