For size of player, it all depends on how large your current library is, and if you plan on expanding it drastically or not.

For me 8 GB really isn't enough, as my library greatly exceeds it. Though I do only have an 8GB iPod. I currently have 1656 songs with 20MB of room to spare.

I find myself having to remove music from it to add newer stuff in that I want, but I also find stuff that I will continiously skip over. So it's a balance because I learn to keep my ipod full of all the stuff i really enjoy so my shuffle experience is great.

So the discussion ended up being moot as Erzebeth ended up making the decision for me and got me a Microsoft Zune for our 3-year.

Overall it's pretty cool. She bought a bright pink one for her boyfriend... but cool. The sound quality is actually really great. Normally, I've been able to tell the difference between radio, TV, CD, cassette tape, computer speaker, etc. sound quality. A song played through any of those always sounded the same to me. With this newfangled MP3 player, I can actually hear a better quality of sound.

Haven't watched a video yet, but the quality also seems pretty good.

My biggest complaint about the Zune I now own (aside from color) is that it's only 4gb. Supposedly, 4gb should fit 1000 songs... yeah 1000 pop songs. A large chunk of my music are 5-10 minute pieces (some breaking 20 minutes). This results in my only being able to fit about 500 songs, unfortunately. I'd prefer if the guidelines said "4gb fits about 1000 songs, unless you like good music."

My biggest complaint about the Zune music program interface thingy is that it's not as responsive as I'd like it to be when trying to add songs to it. This could just be because I'm still getting used to it, though.
