    Alienware Desktop PCs: My Review

I recently published a review on Alienware Desktop PCs. This is a general review based on 10 years of using Alienware Desktops, as well as research on their latest crop.

Yeah, that all sounds about right. You should do one on alienware laptops now. You would only need four words:

    They are complete crap.
[Gethsemane] Nephrys: I've been thinking. Do you suppose the Lord Gethsemane
ever thought about taking a mortal bride?
    [Gethsemane] Deokoria: No.
[Gethsemane] Nephrys: Why do you suppose?
[Gethsemane] Deokoria: I would think that Gethsemane settling for a mortal
bride would be akin to you marrying a roach.

ROFL! Seriously? I thought they were supposed to be good. They certainly cost enough.

It really is a shame. Alienware used to be such a solid company.

I recently shopped for and built two new PCs when Dalaena's died and mine was close. We hadn't replaced our PCs for 4 years (hard to believe). I hadn't built my own PC for about 15 years. It was TONS cheaper and really wasn't that difficult.

Yeah, I've never actually owned a prebuilt desktop. Performance to price ratio is a big deal to me, and building yourself tends to increase that ratio rather substantially.

On the other hand, I've been using a Dell laptop for the last year and a half, and it's probably the best computer I've ever owned. I have yet to have a single hardware issue with it. It performs pretty well for gaming too.

In terms of performance :: price, Dell laptops are pretty good. My usual rule is IBM for top quality (with price to match), Dell for price without compromising on what matters most. (Also, you can buy your laptop directly from Dell AND customize it. That's better than most laptop manufacturers.) Of course, you'll still pay _heaps_ more for a new laptop than you will for a desktop that you build yourself.
