    Mini Laptops

I have been thinking about getting a mini laptop (generally they are around 8.9 inches) so I'll have something compact and portable enough to stick down in my purse. This is something I have been considering buying for homework purposes and for general writing purposes since I have trouble writing with a pen these days.

Does anyone have one? Is it worth the price? Any advice for what kind I should buy? Other general thoughts? I definately need one that's pretty affordable but worth it.

I'd heard that getting one with Vista is a disaster and that its better to get one equipped with XP. Its also able to play movies so it would be quite like a portable DVD player too, its actually around that size too. I'm really just trying to figure out if its worth the extra coin to have an extra portable computer and maybe just keeping my bigger laptop for gaming purposes and such.

This is the one I have been looking at.

My friend has that one, and he quite enjoys it. He's a computer nerd like myself and uses it constantly for his job/onsite comp fixing/etc.

As for a portable DVD player, the speakers suck (as most laptop speakers do).
Sure, I got a secret. More 'n one. Don't seem likely I tell 'em to you now, do it? Anyone off Titan colony knows better than to talk to strangers. You're talkin' loud enough for the both of us, though, ain't ya? I've met a dozen like you. Skipped off-home early. Minor graft jobs here and there. Spent some time in the lockdown, but less than you claim. And you're, what, a petty thief with delusions standing? Sad little king of a sad little hill.

    Has that exact same one?

And portable DVD player speakers suck too!

Yeah, all small speakers are going to be awful. But if you have a headphones jack on it (which most do, and the Acer you're looking at does), you can plug in to some other speaker system. Of course, if you're planning to take this thing to a party and provide the backing sound for everything, you might have to bring 3.5mm to RCA cable... I forgot that last party, and was completely unable to put Looney Tunes cartoons on the big speakers.

That looks like quite a good model. Of course, you pay through the nose for the miniaturization, but you were expecting to do that. Reviewers are recommending you get an external CD/DVD drive, but if you have a wireless network at home, you could just use that very conveniently - it supports 802.11b/g as well as 10/100Mbit LAN.

Personally, I prefer a full laptop on which I can type at a decent speed, but the penalty is that Traal weighs a couple of kilos. If you want something tiny, then that Acer looks to be a good choice.
