I disagree with only have of your statement. The poor do not stay poor because they are simply unintelligent.Originally posted by Jyn
No, and if that's the idea I seem to be stating, I apologize. There is a difference between being stupid and not being intelligent enough.
What I am saying, to move this thread a little back on topic, is that poor people stay poor because they're not intelligent enough to find a way to move up to the next tier in society. They do not stay poor because of the color of their skin or any of the social trends that go with that color. They stay poor because of the choices they make.
There are systematic obstacles that are placed before people who come from impoverished environments. Are you aware that there are prison contractors who lobby congress to dumb down the quality of public education?
There is a direct correlation between the lack of quality of education and increased incarceration rates.
Secondly, I think Cyrinne said something wonderful about intelligence and motivation. You can be the most gifted, intellectual person in the world, but if there isn't any motivation behind it. Then its a total waste.
Thirdly, Many who are a product of these environments that you speak of (myself and a few other threshers). There are many things on a daily basis that steals the motivation from people who grow up in this environment.
These things could be safety, parents addicted, finances, poor access to quality healthcare or food. All of these things contribute to the vicious cycle that plagues the countries of the world.
Fourthly, This goes out to Gromgor. I didn't to comment initially, because I felt your perception and view on rap music and black folks is truly absurd.
Do you know that 65- 75% of hip hop music sales are contributed to middle class whites?
Another bulletin people say things to sell albums. So the video you may have seen on tv, or the tv show that portrays a dysfunctional family isn't an accurate representation of all black folks, or people of poverty of that matter.
The people that you see in your small town riding spinning rims doesn't represent an entire race, and to be quite truthful your lumping everyone together by race shows quite a bit of your own aptitude of life.
I'm sure I missed a few other points.
