Honestly, I don't see the problem.
They took it down, saying it was out of date, then in the same release/interview, the Apple rep said the same thing "we have always recommended the use of anti-virus."

It is a big deal because:

1) They actually have tv ads that invulnerability to virii is one of the ways Macs are superior to PCs.

2) They took down the article once news broke about it (cover up).

3) When trying to say "oh that's just old info", they also had to add statements affirming it. Why? Because they know they can't say you don't need anti virus with your Mac.

That's why it is a big deal. Their marketing lie got exposed, then their cover up got exposed, and then their excuse got exposed as fake since they had to turn right around and give the identical advice as what was in the removed note.
