    Free Wi Fi!!

    http://blog.wired.com/business/2008/...finally-t.html

I think it's inevitable, having experienced it in central Athens, and apparently many other cosmopolitan centers are doing the same thing.
I have an iPod Touch, so I'm always scanning, and latching onto signals whenever I'm walking about.
Shaw Cable, Rogers, and Telus are the big players in western Canada. My question is, do you see a day when wifi goes country-wide? How does a government tell internet providers "okay, we'll allow you, but not you!"
I know you believe you understand what you think I said. But I am not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.

Free wifi covering a whole city was one of the first things I thought of when I looked into 802.11n - the range and bandwidth offered make it feasible to paint a whole city with RF and connect everything up. (Obviously there'll be dead spots, same as there are with mobile phones; if 2.11 gets as popular as 3G, providers will spend the money necessary to fill in those spots.)

I don't think it'll happen in Australia any time soon, but America could have it today. There's nothing to stop any ISP from simply offering it, under whatever scheme they like.

I pressed the Ctrl key, but I'm still not in control!
