Why Palin will be worse than Dan Quayle.

    Go.

Anyone who wears a skirt or dress out in public has more potential damaging incidents that the press can totally blow out of proportion than just falling down some stairs or misspelling potato[e].

    She's screwed.

Dal makes an interesting point, but, I think Palin has the grace and charisma to pull it off pretty smoothly. She was a runner up in the Miss Alaska pageant - I'm not sure if they train intensley for those things, but I think it's safe to assume that she knows how to bend and move in a skirt while in the public eye.

I'm not holding my breath for any huge, explosive incidents even though, as I learned recently, I 'hate Palin'.

Not the point. No matter how gracefully you know how to move or how beautiful you may appear, you WILL have some incidents that are embarassing. If the press decides to hound you and blow it out of proportion, you're screwed.

I don't think any vice-presidential candidate has had this much scrutiny in a LONG time. I don't think that'll end if she and McCain get elected, and they'll get SOMETHING. Do we really think that Dan Quayle went around falling down all the time? Probably not. He's a pretty composed and good-looking guy. Yet, the press made it seem like he was a bumbling idiot who could barely function because of a few falls they caught on camera. Seriously. You think they won't do that to Palin considering how out of control the scrutiny is already??

I'd have to take you on your word that Palin is under enormous scrutiny in the media, I don't watch enough of it to know. I'll generally tune in for a segment I want to see, such as one of the candidates speaking, and then move on before the spinsters kick in. I do this because I don't want to give the media undue influence on my opinion. It's probably the same reason I don't hold any 'anchors' to any level of esteem, except for the occassional comedic anchor such as Jon Stewart or Steve Colbert: before I'm harped on for that one, I recognize that these shows are advertised as comedy, and I don't take what they show to be litteral. It's some much needed levity when things get so serious.

Seriously, I have no idea what they'll do with Palin. If they look for it, they'll find it. But I don't think Palin will give them much of an opportunity. She's very intelligent, and very charismatic - ie a good speaker. As long as she's scripted 'properly', I think she'll be fine.

Oh, they didn't get Dan Quayle or Jimmy Carter at any "scripted event". They got those guys getting off the plane or simply interacting with kids.

    It's just what they do.

And then we have to ask what the source of that scrutiny is. Racism is alive and well in America, but gender bias is the reigning king of current social imbalance. She's a woman and that scares a lot of people. She's a woman that can hold her own too, and that makes her more intimidating.
Stranger, observe our laws! We have both swords and shovels and we doubt that anyone would miss you.

Honestly? I think the real crime is being a woman and being a Republican, too.
