Everyone respects John McCain’s Vietnam service, however I'm tired of hearing the McCain campaign exploit that difficult chapter in his life every time he sticks his foot in his mouth. If I were an American voter, I'd be asking "what have you done for me lately?" Being a POW does not exempt you from scrutiny over your political life, views, and voting record.

Rudy "911" Giuliani was the same way.

This is a tough situation for me, since I basically hate every single politician we:

    1) Have in office
    2) Have running for election.

    But...

What has Obama done lately? Zero.

McCain would probably respond with campaign finance reform (something he made happen cross party with Feingold) and a number of other pet projects - most of which had bipartisan support.

But don't misinterpret that. I'm definitely not fired up for John McCain.

Times like this one wonders fondly about that Tom Clancy book where a plane crashed into a joint session of Congress, wiping everyone out and making Jack Ryan president.

This is going to be a painful election cycle full of vagueness and mud slinging. Both candidates are dull as heck with no inspirational platform really. Neither has a true message like Presidential candidates used to have. They are both basically running on the "Hey, I'm not that bad. I'm better than the people I ran against!"

I would be willing to vote for a president I didn't like, if I didn't like that president because he had very clear, very defined goals and positions that he never really backed down from.

    Why?

At least then I know I'm going to get a consistent president. I know then exactly what to expect.

McCain/Obama are both lacking in that.

Because some of us don't see him competing to be the "President." Some people, like myself, see him running for the position of Commander in Chief, the head of our military. That gives McCain significant points in my book, and Obama nothin'.

I'm not into either of the candidates, but the McCain bashing by the liberal left pisses me off. They're so f***ing engrossed with Obama that they resort to childish retaliations on a candidate they know nothing about.

If you're referring to the McCain's house gaff, then yes that is a rather silly talking point to latch onto; however McCain's side did the same thing with Obama's tire comment, so tit for tat!!

Bush jr's record of accomplishments before entering the White House was nothing to brag about, yet Karl Rove got him 2 terms in the office. It's all about controlling and manipulating the message. Both candidates are running on 2 different versions of patriotism. One served his country in battle; the other is a defender of the US constitution. I don't see one as superior to the other, however my choice leans towards Obama.

I've said this before. A significant percentage of Americans vote for image over substance with their candidates. This is partly why Bush 2 was re-elected. John Kerry was successfully painted as an elitist egg head, who's answers nobody understood. The sad thing was there was truth to this smear. Bush was also re-elected because his campaign successfully scared enough people into believing that if they didn't vote for Bush, hellfire was going to rain down upon the US of A.

What does George Bush have to do with this issue? Nothing. Are you already going into Bush Bash Withdrawals before he's even out of office?

The worst thing, imho, about John McCain's dirty, negative campaign is that he totally gave up a high ground he could have had.

Think about how outrageous it is that the Bush Bashing Left has already started trying the same stuff on McCain... a guy they were gearing up to worship 4 years ago while Kerry was courting him as a running mate.

But all that is moot because McCain is letting his people run a dirty campaign.

I think I posted this before, but maybe I didn't: I'd like to get behind a political movement whose sole goal was getting every single incumbent defeated - regardless of political affiliation.

    Nope.

My point is you don't you don't have to have a long list of accomplishments to become President. All Bush needed was Karl Rove and Fox News. Bush was never fit for the position, but he was successfully painted as the right guy for the job.

So people on the Left and Right say what has McCain and Obama done lately? Doesn't matter.

I really wish someone would explain how it is Fox News gets labeled as witless mouthpieces for the Republican Party. They are without a doubt more conservative friendly than the other news outlets out there. But unlike them, their commentators don't pretend to be unbiased spectators without any agendas. I would also wager that they give a lot more face time to the left than the other networks give to the right. They are the only news alternative there is out there to the very liberal leaning ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN,BBCA,MSNBC et al.... which is what really makes my head scratch in wonder at all the undue criticism they receive. My best guess is most of the vitriol comes from the fact that they generally crush their rival's audience numbers combined.
At least it isn't conservatism funded at the point of a gun the way liberalism is through NPR and PBS.
