Anyone know of a Mac Mud client?

I've found/tried a few and at best so far I've still had a .5 second lag in response time (really not fun as I'm sure you're all aware).

    I've tried thus far:
    - Savatar
    - Atlantis
    - Ggmud
    - Rapscallion
    - TinyFugue

Honestly, all I want is something like Gmud/Zmud/RosMud. Something in the opensource/freeware market is handy. Just something simple, straight forward, and fast. Client-side aliases are nice but not necessary.

(or maybe Rosuav could make a mac port........)
Sure, I got a secret. More 'n one. Don't seem likely I tell 'em to you now, do it? Anyone off Titan colony knows better than to talk to strangers. You're talkin' loud enough for the both of us, though, ain't ya? I've met a dozen like you. Skipped off-home early. Minor graft jobs here and there. Spent some time in the lockdown, but less than you claim. And you're, what, a petty thief with delusions standing? Sad little king of a sad little hill.

Response time? You don't mean network latency, I presume, because that's not related to your client; half-second response time locally??? That's appalling.

I'm not doing a Mac port of RM, but if you can use one of the Windows emulators, you may be able to get half-decent performance out of it - look for www.winehq.org or one of the others. I can't support Macs, though, as I don't have one; if I had a week to play with one, I could probably learn how to do it, but porting RM would be a significant job - it's tied very closely to the Win32 API, for best performance.

I did think that was the case because with our PC next to it, mud clients run flawlessly. If I reboot the mac into windows and run a client off of there it runs flawlessly.

I play with my Macbook Pro.. which honestly, is not a big issue.

Since I don't use a lot of the major features, I have been known to use TinTin++

but lately I have use Savitar, and have been fairly happy with it. It's the best of the GUI clients I have found.. but still has it's quirks.

TinTin++ is honestly probably the fastest thing you can use to play.

oh and Ros.. since OS X is more or less UNIX under the hood, I'd be willing to bet you could do a fair job of support even as is. Just navigating the user interface is odd because of the simplistic nature of it compared to anything else.. oh and the most annoying thing is the fact that it does put stuff in wierd places.

It's the interface that I'd be supporting Most people who say "How do I do this" aren't saying "What are the API calls to do this" but "What's the interface to this".

Those people I know who use Macs use Savitar quite happily. Are you sure there isn't something wrong with the computer?

I mud almost exclusively from my G4 Powerbook, which is a shame because I can't dual-boot it over to Windows to use MUSHClient. So far I have yet to find ANY mud client for OSX that doesn't suck in some way/shape/form.

I hate Savitar. The only reason I use it right now is because Atlantis has some kind of weird bug in it that will make it randomly scroll-lock and you can't undo it (or I haven't figured out to yet) without restarting the client. Right now Atlantis is probably the best client out there right now, barring it's one stupid flaw. Savitar on the other hand sucks ass at replicating ANSI color. It seems to really just not want to do it at all. And you can't customize the color pallet it uses well enough to "fix" the problem for them. Basically as it stands there's no difference between bold black and bold white... and they're not really labelled right in the color scheme and you end up with standard text in funky colors if you try to fix it the way it should be.

I've been debating on seeing how difficult it would be to code a client for OSX (since OSX is supposed to be REALLY coder friendly). But I'll admit I don't know much of anything about TCP/IP coding, so that may well quash it right from the beginning. But we'll see. I have a bunch of free time now that I'm looking for a job post-graduation I'll definitely keep people posted if I start working on something and it looks feasible.

If you want some random bits of code, I can offer various oddments. OSX is going to use a fairly standard Berzerkerly Sockets API, so everything should work fine; I'll give you some OS/2 code that should cross-compile, as long as you use C++.
