Thread: Amazon Kindle

    Amazon Kindle

In case you haven't seen this yet, the link is at Amazon Kindle.

I ordered mine back at the end of November and just got it a few days ago because they keep selling out so fast. So far, I love it. There are a few books that I have tried to look for that are not available on Kindle yet, but I am hoping that will change as time goes by. Sure, it's probably not for everyone. I wondered how I would like it at first since I've always rather liked books - hardback books. I dislike reading e-books at the computer, but I think that is mostly because of comfort and location than the actual reading. But this little thing is great. The electronic-paper display makes it very much like reading a "book" book. Plus, I tend to read several books at the same time so it's nice to be able to have them all on one gadget instead of having to run around and hunt down the one I want to read this instant. It has a lot of other nice features as well.

Wow, that thing looks freakin' awesome.

Free access to wikipedia was a really neat feature they mention at the end.

The fact that it uses cell phone connectivity for all its online stuff is pretty sweet too.

For the blogs it says it gives you access to, can you read the comments as well, and can you add comments? I see it has a keyboardish thing.

One of the women we traveled to Costa Rica with recently brought her Kindle along - that thing is just darn cool. The way the screen looks is definitely more booklike than, say, an LCD.

    It's way convenient for travel.

I think everyone came away wanting one of their own, even the bf who refuses to read. Heheh.

That is really cool! I think my Mom would love it. I wish there was a way to pass along a book like a used book but I can't see how that would work. If I had the money I'd get one for my mom. It would be neat if it had and audio feature on so you could bring it in your car and listen to it like audio cd too. Very cool though!

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can listen to audio on the Kindle. I remember the lady with us mentioning that she could listen to music while reading her books, so she had a kind of soundtrack.

I'm not sure about the blogs, I haven't played around with that yet, but I'm guessing that you probably can.

And it does have audio capability - again, haven't really played with that yet and I don't know that I will because I love my ipod, too.

Another neat aspect is that you can email any document or attachment (including photos) to your amazon account and then have them sent to your Kindle. There is a fee for this, but it's only something like a dime per document.

Also you can browse the web in general. There is an "experimental" feature that lets you enter any URL and you can navigate to that website. It's not as functional as other web browsers, but you can view content at least.

It sounds and looks like Amazon did a little better this time than they did with the Dork-mobile.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. If every book was just a click away for Dalaena, we'd go bankrupt one $9.99 debit at a time. And the sad thing is, as fast as she reads, I would give us 2, maybe 3 months before we're filing Chapter 13.

    I have a question:

If you buy a book, do you have access to it forever, even if you delete it from your SD card? Because when you eventually fill up your card, you might want to delete some stuff to make room. But what if you want one of those books back?
