    [META] A-Rod

Ok. That's it. We need a meta thread for all things A-Rod from here on out.

    Sad but true.

This story really cracked me up.

Report: Yanks willing to talk to A-Rod, but without Boras

According to the report, a high-ranking Yankees source said the team is willing to bring back A-Rod on a below-market contract that would make up for the $21 million subsidy from the Texas Rangers that the Yankees lost when A-Rod opted out of the final three years of his contract -- despite team comments indicating he had burned his bridges by opting out.

But any such deal can't take place with Boras at the table, a Yankee source said, according to the report.

"We will not negotiate with Scott Boras," the source told the Daily News. "He cannot be in the room."
Hahahahahahahahahaha. This has the stink of Hank (or Hal) Steinbrenner all over it. That guy is an immature, clueless idiot.

I wish I still had a link to his previous A-Rod statements where he acted like playing for the Yankees was some kind of blessing from God that every player should be so thankful of they forget about their fair market value.

Boo hoo. Scott Boras might get the best of you, so you don't want him in the room. How about you figure out what A-Rod is worth to you, and then you go in and negotiate.

Do you really think A-Rod is going to deal without Boras after Boras has done a brilliant job managing his career this far?

Duh. Hank and Hal are such idiots.

I think I'll just refer to them as a single unit now: Halk Steinbrenner.

    Boras-man

Beh. Boras is an annoying, money-hungry git. I hope A-rod signs with the Yanks on his own...

Then they won't win the World Series for at least 10 years. It's the Curse of A-Rod!

There is no curse of A-Rod. A-Rod is the best ball player in the universe. I just hope he goes to a smaller team that never hits the playoffs again so he can hit 800 home runs a year and never have to worry about performing in October.
All shrank, like boys who unaware,
Ranging the woods to start a hare,
Come to the mouth of the dark lair
Where, growling low, a fierce old bear
    Lies amidst bones and blood.

The economic concessions that Rodriguez said he would make prompted the Yankees to reverse their stated intention not to talk to him if he opted out.

In the third-party approach to the Yankees, Rodriguez let them know that he was willing to take $21 million less than they otherwise would have offered because that was the amount the Texas Rangers would have paid during the last three years of the contract Rodriguez gave up. Rodriguez also let the Yankees know he was willing to do the deal without Boras.
This says one of two things. "Whoops, I fucked up and must eat a bit of crow" OR "I've got a scheme brewing but want to win over some Yankeefolk in the meantime". I don't really care much about Alex/the Yankees/baseball, but the evolution of this deal is like a bad TV show that you catch once and then inexplicably keep watching.

    QFT.

The not performing in the post season thing is just a coincidence. Furthermore, he was pretty good this post season.

The Yankees have failed in the post season for other, more serious reasons.

My god. Halk Steinbrenner is such a fucking idiot.

"There are a few cynics who say, 'Well, he really couldn't get this there,' " Steinbrenner said. "Trust me, he would have gotten probably more. He is making a sacrifice to be a Yankee, there's no question. ... He showed what was really in his heart and what he really wanted."
Keep thinking that, dumbfuck. Nobody takes a pay cut just to "be a Yankee." If anything, people expect to be paid a premium for strapping on the pinstripes.
