You've GOT to be shitting me. I'm waiting for the first woman to die or get cancer over this. I can't believe the FDA approved it.

Some women have extremely debilitating periods. One girl I grew up with was stuck in bed 7 days in 28 with a bucket beside the bed to collect her pain induced vomit.
This pill will make life a lot easier for a lot of women, and will make it manageable for quite a few.
What's wrong with it? Medical science has discovered a way to optionally remove an unpleasant part of the human experience. Other members of the "shitty stuff that used to be inevitable that we can now safely blow off" club: rampant tooth decay, polio, dying at the age of 40 from "natural causes."
Label the potential side effects, and let the market do its job. If someone wants to take the risks - more power to them. In any event, I'm sure there are women who would much rather skip the CERTAINTY of pain on a monthly basis (for those for whom their period is so severe) and risk what-have-you. Not every drug needs to get quashed underneath an authoritarian jackboot.
From all my lovers that loved us, thou, God, didst sunder us;
thou madest thick darkness above us, and thick darkness under us;
thou hast kindled thy wrath for a light, and made ready thy sword;
let a remnant find grace in Thy sight, I beseech thee, O Lord.
This really isn't new, as the article states.
At least 10 years ago, I had a doctor telling me to take bc pills nonstop and have a period every four months or so due to endometriosis.
Endometriosis gets worse with each menstrual cycle, as the tissue backs up (retrograde menses, fun) into the abdominal cavity and adheres to organs, etc. This was not only a pain-relieving cure but a prevention of further complications, since the tissue had already fused part of my intestines together and was working on closing up my urethra. If that's TMI, sorry, but that's what this disease can do.
Endometriosis also isn't easily diagnosed and can (as far as I know) only be confirmed by laparoscopic surgery. Many women could have this condition and be completely unaware. Isn't it fair to women to allow them this option?
I have actually spoken to my doctor about this as well. After my second daughter was born my periods became horrendous. Despite the fact that I had my tubes tied after her birth, I went back on birth control to regulate my cycle. I have thought about talking to my doctor about taking them continuously. I wanted to see how I reacted to this dosage of medication first.
Other ways that I have read that women elimate their periods are using IUDs and a fairly recent procedure which involved caterizing (burning off) the lining of the uterus. Of course, the later is for women who don't want anymore children. That is a bit extreme for me, but my neighbor has been talking to her doctor about it.
Most of the shadows of this life are caused by standing in one's own sunshine.

Life enhancement pills come with these super mini typed life-threatening warnings. [Take the morning after pill, it will also improve your skin! -.... the risk of bleeding to death from all orifices...] The market is good at playing on people's wants today. Like sheep people don't want to deal with the wolf just over the horizon. No doubt about it, the no period pill will have a market.
Years from now people will still wonder as they do today, why medical science can do all these miracle things to improve their lives but ask why cancer and medical rates keep rising.
Welcome to catch 22.

Katydid for the win.
Yeah I'm not so sure that putting a stop to something normal is a good thing. Granted if there are medical problems then fine but for someone who isn't having problems it just makes me wonder if there will be problems when messing with life's normalities.
My ex-mother-in-law had taken a pill that was suppose to help with things years ago and now she is apart of a group of women who are now suing for the damages caused by this medication.
It's something new and with anything new there are problems.
