School is a place for parents to send their children to get rid of them for the bulk of the day. Video games are what parents allow/rely on to keep the children occupied the rest of the time. How many people do you know of who actually have fun with their children on a daily basis? Not many, unfortunately. But, those children are far less likely to end up doing these sorts of things.
Good points, all sad but true, however it really does come down to effective parenting. I firmly believe some people just shouldn't have kids, as some often don't have the maturity and ability to raise a child properly; instilling proper behavior, treatment of others, etc...
