I think this all boils down to a lack of common sense.

Simply put peoples, all peoples, are fucking stupid. I am however divided on exactly how I feel blame should be dispensed in this situation.

A wise man once said (whose name I can not remember), "Show the world the face you wish them to remember".

When I turn on the tv I see blacks jumping around talking about bitches and hos. They call each other nigger and dawg. They disrespect each other as an odd form of bonding and brotherhood.

I live in a fairly nice area. About 5 minutes away there's a little town that's become famous in the area for it's crime. (I'm in a rural area. Crime isn't usually a huge problem) When I drive through I see blacks dressed up like the rappers on tv, talking like the rappers I see on tv, behaving like the rappers I see on tv. The same rappers who "sing" of killing and stealing. In general being hoodlums.

I also see whites behaving the exact same way.

I also see a lot of blacks, mexicans, whatever who do not act this way. They simply choose not to do those things society (and yes, society is not so splintered and relative as many would have you believe) finds unacceptable.

They behave like criminals. Blacks, whites, whatever. They should be treated as such until they decide to quit acting that way. Ebonics in the classroom is not an answer. It's an example of societies lack of conviction.

Parties such as those described only reinforce in my mind that the black community that disapproves of such antics need to step up and tell the other part of the black community that they disapprove.

Some of them do. I still remember Bill Cosby's controversy when he spoke up against it. He was an Uncle Tom. A term likely used by more people who hadn't read the book than had.

I have two opinions that conflict within my mind about all of this:

First: I've always held that if a group wishes to belong to a society (for instance blacks) and be well-respected and in all ways seen as viable, valid and more importantly valued, they should stop trying to hang on to those things that seperate and distinguish them from all others in that society. Until blacks, whites, hispanics, whatever stops referring to themselves as such and instead begins referring to themselves as (and I use this simply because it's commonly known. It's cliche) humans, they will forever be seen as outsiders. They will never, and never will be accepted without hesitation or indifference.

Secondly: People are stupid but a person is smart. Everyone involved in this singularly chooses to behave in the manner they do. They should be held accountable for that. However, though they have no defense for their stupidity it's not without expectation. People are impressionable and none moreso that High School and College kids. A lot of them are in an anti-conformist mindset and anything that is "sticking it to the man" is going to be jumped on like every other bandwagon.

It's so similar to my gripe with FUBU. For Us By Us. Yeah, right. Only a handful of people are getting rich while you're wearing a namebrand that's been deemed socially acceptable. It's not For You or By You. It's for your exploitation and by their design. The only input you have is monetary.

I think it's just a big load of asshattery and everyone's trying to win the 10 gallon trophy hat.
