You know, I get quite a bit of hate for just opening my mouth and questioning why people do some of the dumbest shit in the world like buy kitten health insurance or obsess over American Idol. I just don't get it. These things that "regular" people do are so absurdly idiotic, they boggle my mind to a degree that sometimes makes me downright angry. I cannot understand for the lfie of me why people are SO entrenched in their DUMB SHIT ideas.

Enter my dumb shit idea: sitting outside a Best Buy for 6.5 hours in 37-degree weather just so I can be first in line to pick up one of the 25 consoles they had on hand (all of which they sold almost immediately). Kiana - and a bunch of other people on citizen and wheverever the hell - have collectively given me shit like I can't believe over it.

If you are talking about me, I was commenting on the whole game console culture. I was it with the PS3, Xbox 360, and now the Wii, and its stupid. Its pandering to game manufacturers and saying, "Sure...its okay to release 3 in the world...we'll fight to the death to get them. Go right on ahead!"

To me, thats consumerism at its most idiotic. Perhaps it is because I don't play consoles, but any kind of waiting like that is beyond my comprehension, whether it is concert tickets, or sales shopping. It all feels materialistic. Sure, you may get a community when in the queues, but you can put me in the category of "If I really want it, I'll wait until they've got it stocking the shelves when I walk in".
So why do people feel it's okay to be like this to someone who didn't even ask "what do you think of standing in line?" All I was doing was expressing joy over getting my console. Also, why is it NOT okay to ask the same question of something that a person considers equally absurd, but is a definite societal norm? Why is it okay to question the dork outside the Best Buy just because he's in the minority?

And not that this is the point ... but if you really want to know why the hell I stood in line like I did, it's beacuse of my brother. He just got through with basic training (graduated thrid in his class only four points behind superboot). He got home the afternoon after those Wii shipments came in. I stood in line because my little brother is now a grown man making his own choices and he's about to leave me. I won't see him for another year, and if things go bad where he's going, I may never see him again. We grew up playing video games together. It is our national pasttime. We both toghether hav been just *SO* excited over this system. I wanted to wait in line in the cold. For him. For us. It's extremely hard for me watching my brother leave. I wanted to make some awesome memories during the time he has here.

But that's not really the point of this post. I didn't come here to discuss a Wii. I came here to ask why so many people feel it's perfectly fine to be a complete dick to me over it, yet when I'm a dick to them about something they don't understand, they get *EXTREMELY* defensive. Maybe now some of you can see things from my point of view. At first I was okay with the flak I was getting because I understand how some people can't understand me. Then it hit me just a while ago that if the tables were turned, I'd be getting cursed, flamed, and spat on from every direction for interjecting an opposing opinion where none was asked for. The subject wasn't even up for debate. It was in the fucking GAMES FORUM. What are you even doing in the games forum in a console topic (besides giving me a hard time) if you don't play consoles?
