The right music, the right tone of voice, the right pictures (I love the one of the helicopter against the sun), it says what we want to hear and it is easy to swallow.
He said "33,000 new businesses" since "THE END OF THE WAR". What about before the war?. Vaccinations against polyo since the end of the war, didn't children get vaccinated before the war? Iraq economy was hit badly by the sanctions, but it was not a very poor country. They should provide information for comparison like when they compare the number of mobile phones now with the past, or the freedom of speech.
It says: "many soldiers have died, maybe some of those are true"
like this was a minor matter. It is true that Iraq's news is full of bombs and deaths. They are true though, it is happening. I guess it would be better if they didn't tell us.
What I find the most stupid excuse is:
"Things are tough in Iraq, after all is not easy to put a country of 25 MILLION people back together after decades of war". The commentator sends the message that what is happening is excusable, due to the difficulty in managing a country with different etnic and religion groups. It is like if Saddam excuses himself saying that he had to kill 100,000 kurds to make sure there was political stability.
The only fact I cannot get over in the whole Iraq matter is that an estimated 200,000 Iraqi people have died (1% of the population) from the beginning of the war, a war that started without the necessary intelligence and for reasons that have been proven wrong. What do you say to the relatives of these dead people. Hey, you got mobile phones now!!?
My point here is that we should take this add with a pinch of salt. It is proven that in democratic countries, most people believes what their politicians and main media companies tell them, without criticising. We should read between the lines.
Have all a happy vacation.
