Full marks to the church. They got together a LOT of money simply to be nice to a family. And there's nothing wrong with actually deeding the house to them, rather than letting them have it rent-free or something. But - you don't expect such disgusting abuse of trust and generosity. Sure, they may be legally and technically permitted to do this. But morally?
It's up to God to choose what He does. From the church's point of view, I'd just consider that the gift was made, accepted, and finished - move on, don't stress about it. Taking them to court is futile.
