    Tree thieves

Police in southern Germany are on the hunt for thieves who stole a tree plantation.

The theft was discovered by the 56-year-old owner of the woodland, which is about the size of half a football pitch, when he went to check on the trees in the Hunsrueck region south of Frankfurt.

Police said the thieves appeared to be professionals who used different cutting devices to chop down the fir trees and drive away with them.

Hmmm... I'm still trying to come up with a joke using the word furtive (fir thief?), but due to the proximity of Germans to the story I've lost all sense of humour.

I've heard of thieves who'll take anything that isn't bolted down, but this really takes the biscuit.

Biscuit thieves are as bad as tree thieves in my book.

This happens from time to time in the US too, usually in the south. Someone will go ninja log a few acres of forest while no one is watching. Probably a lot easier in the US since you can pick a remote spot.

Bet you're glad you didn't now! What with all the rampant theft going on. Who knew the tree business was so cut-throat!
