Wow, you guys are talking about one of my favorite subjects in the world
Sorry I haven't weighed in sooner, I haven't logged in to the forums since Monday.
Anyway, here's my take. Steinbrenner putting the heat on Torre underscores what a steaming pile of shit he is. I've been a Yanks fan for about 30 years now and one of the issues I have with New York fans is our short-term memories. Torre has done an excellent in one of the most demanding, high-pressure positions in any sport. He's gotten to the postseason regularly despite the fact that the last few seasons our pitching has sucked ass. And frankly, who is out there that's more a winner that would fit with the Yanks?
Now, A-Rod on the other hand needs to go. This is a bit anecdotal since I don't have stats available, but A-Rod is a STUD when the Yanks are up 3+ runs. But when we actually *need* a hit, I'd wager his average is under .200. The dude has skills but he's a major choke artist. His overall stats aren't that much lower than Jeter's but if you look at the timing of those hits and HRs, Jeter wins hands down.
I also think that our geriatric pitching staff needs some new blood. We have to jettison some of these older dudes in favor of some young guns. I'm not sure who is out there or if there's anyone in the farm system ready to move up, but it needs to be done. There was some talk about a Japanese dude that Matsui is familiar with coming over. I haven't had a chance to read the local sports pages though so I don't know much about him.
Now that I've had my rant, I'll scroll back and read what the rest of y'all have to say
