    Satellite Connections

I have just a quick question - Since moving to the middle of freakin nowhere Wisconsin, i have had to give up any resemblance to a high speed connection.

Recently, Wild Blue has started service in my area and I was wondering if anybody has used it yet and will it work for online gaming and such. My concern would be with latency issues as the signal bounces off a chunk of metal a gazlillion miles away.

    Thanks!

For Threshold, it will probably be fine.

For file downloads, satellite is fine.

For online gaming like FPSes and such, it is horrible, because the latency is enormous (the signal has to travel all the way to the satellite and back down).

Most of the satellite providers switched to pure satellite a few years ago. There may be some that still do upload via modem, or some may offer that as an option.

I think bad weather may scramble the signal as well. My satellite (directv) goes out when heavy rains come through.

One of my bosses at work just signed up for it. He's supposed to get it installed in like a week or so. I'll be sure to ask him how it is soon after and let ya know.
