The thing about Shaq's freethrows, is that I think that his body is just unable to function the way it should for that type of shot. If you watch him, he looks so incredibly uncomfortable, and almost pained because his form is so bad. It's not that the guy hasn't tried.....Much like Tiger Woods reshaped his swing from the ground up a couple years back, Shaq has gone to numerous techniques and he has practiced more than I'm sure he cares to remember at it, it's just something that his body doesn't wanna do right.

I don't believe that his lack of good free throw shooting should have an effect on his status as a dominant player for this reason: Shaq is not a clutch shot type of guy. He's RARELY been the guy to get the last shot or last free throw, and when he has, it's been because of a breakdown of the original play. You're not going to think of a clutch 3, a clutch jumper, a clutch free throw.....What Shaq does, is have clutch GAMES.

When you look back at many of the greats, you think back to their clutch shots (Jordan shoving off against the Jazz and draining his 2 pts to seal his 6th and final championship, Bird stealing an inbounds pass from the Pistons and handing it off for the game winning basket, Magic driving through the lane and hitting (numerous) baby sky hooks. There are just some images from these types of players which are unforgettable. Shaq doesn't really have a lot of these images, because his efforts always seem to have been measured in whole games. I'm not sure why this is, but I don't mind either way. I still believe he's one of the greatest to play the game.
