What scares me is that in the US right now, politicians on BOTH SIDES are so addicted to spending money and buying votes that we're heading in that direction - and there is no single political party to blame. That leaves us with little or no recourse. It is hard to "vote the bums out" when the ones who replace them end up being the same vote buying, overspending, big government asswipes that are plunging us into ruin.

Agreed. It is very disturbing that very often in US elections (looking at state and local too) you're forced to pick the lesser of two evils. OR you see voters that get mad at one particular move an official made and as payback vote for the new guy, who just so happens to be a bigger idiot.

The vote buying and bs like that works because -people- are stupid. I would bet a fuckton of money that probably damn near 60% of voters have ZERO clue on issues/platforms/plans of candidates they're voting for, and how those things will actually affect the city/state/country around them. People hear one or two nice 'promises' and think Ooh. . that sounds kinda good, I think, I'll vote for him.

As far as the French Labor issues go, I hope that it gets a bit more US new coverage and depth. I hope local/state government is pushed to answer the concern that US Trends are leading down that same road. Not that they'd give a straight answer anyways..
