    META Steroid Thread

For various steroid in sports issues, use this thread. Here is an interesting news story to get us started:

WEST ORANGE, N.J. -- High school athletes whose teams qualify for championship games will face random testing for steroids under a first-in-the nation plan issued Tuesday by acting Gov. Richard J. Codey.
    Good!

In signing an executive order requiring the testing, Codey cited statistics from the National Institute on Drug Abuse that found 3.4 percent of all high school seniors nationwide admitted to using steroids at least once last year. Among 8th graders, that figure was nearly 2 percent.

    ...

Peter King, who covers the National Football League for Sports Illustrated, served on the task force and wrote its forward, in which he termed steroid use among high school athletes "a secret society."

"There's one thing out there that should keep them from even thinking of using steroids and that's the disgrace of a positive test on the eve of a championship event," he said.

    Good lord:

Matt Lawton admitted that he took the veterinary steroid boldenone last season, just before he was suspended for 10 days for violating Major League Baseball's steroids policy.

Lawton told Sports Weekly's Bob Nightengale that he was playing poorly and was hurting, so he turned to steroids.

"I wasn't playing well enough to be on a Little League roster, let alone be on the roster of the New York Yankees," Lawton told Sports Weekly in its current issue. "I just wasn't physically able to do the job. I had never been in the playoff hunt before. So I did something that will always haunt me."
He claims he used them once and just magically got tested the next day.

Lawton said that he's never taken amphetamines, but injected the steroid on Sept. 20. The next day, he started in center field and hit a home run in his first at-bat. He said he didn't feel any pain.

He was tested the next day.

    ...

Lawton, an All-Star in 2000 and 2004, is currently without a team.

"I don't want people to think that everything I did, the good years I had, were steroid-related," Lawton told Sports Weekly. "I learned a lot about myself last year, and I'll be better for it.
Bullshit. He used roids his whole career. Liar.

    Fucking hilarious.

Palmeiro says he can't explain steroid test

Of course you can't explain it, you lying sack of shit, because the only explanation is you willfully injected roids into your ass so you could play better and make more money. Duh. It actually isn't that shameful if you admit to it. Against the rules? Of course. But who couldn't understand WHY people do it. It is the lying about it that really makes me angry and wants such people banned for life and all records stricken.

In the espn.com poll, 13.9% actually believe his pile of lies. I would be happy that 86+% think he is lying, but what the fuck is wrong with the 13.9%. Hopefully that's about the same percent that still think the Earth is flat.
