A lot of good points have been raised here, but one of the biggest problems is that Exxon and Mobil should never have been allowed to merge.

They were part of Standard Oil which was broken up in the early 1900s in order to combat over-concentration of oil power. This was the beginning of modern anti-trust law.

The fact that they were allowed to merge was pure idiocy.
Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my Uncle Jack off a horse." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse."

There is never a good time for lazy writing!

    Oil companies defend profits

"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people,
it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government -
lest it come to dominate our lives and interests". – Patrick Henry

ANWR is a bandaid on a compund fracture. I've seen the stats and what they would expect to get from it versus what the u.s. consumes in oil per year, it's barely supplemental.
Stranger, observe our laws! We have both swords and shovels and we doubt that anyone would miss you.

If you reverse your logic then I would never use the fancy new lightbulbs or buy the energy efficient appliances, because in the overall scheme of things, they help very little.

Anyway, gas prices are down to just a bit above what they were, and winter is in full swing. We'll put this on hold for a couple years.
