    Political Predictions

    Political Predictions

What are your political predictions for the future? Based on fact, or pure speculation, two years away or fifty, let’s hear ‘em.

    Presidential election for 2008

    Democrats:

I predict that Hilary Clinton will clench the democratic nominee for 2008. Given her name and status, and current lack of a strong opponent, this will most likely be done fairly easily.

This will be positive for two reasons:

    1. She’ll be the first non-white male to actually have a chance at the White House, thus putting us one step closer to breaking the mold.
    2. Hilary does not have the type of charisma that her Husband has, among other things, so I highly doubt her being elected.

Democrats have constantly shot themselves in the foot these last five years, and will more then likely continue to do so for the next three years. I think the consistent barrage of negative comments from certain Democrats has and will quench their chances.

    Republicans:

Republicans will more then likely choose between Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. Either one of these individuals, I believe, is going to be our next president. Things are so sketchy and up in the air I’d hardly feel comfortable predicting between the two, though either one would be a smart political move on the republicans. Both are moderate republicans who tend to get flak from hard right conservatives, one for being so open to deal with Democrats and the other for his support of gay marriage and partial birth abortions. Both are powerful republicans, one being an influential senator and the other an icon of stability during 9/11.

Azoryn: This is not a criticism of you in any way. I think you are simply a product of our times and our media, and have been thusly manipulated into thinking now is an appropriate time to start discussing and analyzing a presidential election that is more than 3 years away.

    With that said:

Can we please maybe wait at least 1-2 more years before starting this up again?

Is it absolutely necessary to have a permanent election cycle in this country?

Frankly, I think it is that attitude (that the election cycle never ends) that is making it impossible for politicians to have any sort of positive "working together" period. In the past, the 6-12 months before an election were difficult, the election happened, and then we enjoyed 3+ years of relative peace where politicians could actually TRY to get things done. Yes, they disagreed, but at least they disagreed on issues and were not constantly just trying to score points and move the polls in one direction or another.

Does anyone here miss the negative vitriol that even managed to creep into Threshold's forums and channels as a result of the last presidential election?

How about we don't contribute to this exceptionally negative trend and hold off on 2008 election crap until at least late 2006? (or if we can manage it, 2007!).

Meh. We just need a centrist party is all. Dunno why it hasn't happened yet, to be honest.

If violence is not your last resort, you have failed to resort to enough of it.
