    Boycot an island?

Through a dutch newsmessage i came across Dr. Phil's website and read about his show, with Beth twitty, about Natalee Holloway's disappearance. One of the statements he made was:
We need to say, ‘That's not OK.’ We need to tell these people, ‘We will never set foot on Aruban soil again until you stand up and do what you have to do for this young woman. You just have to understand that.’ And if that means writing the State Department, if it means writing the President, if it means writing the Aruban government, they just need to know, ‘There's 270 million people over here that are going to forget you people exist as a destination and see how that works for you. If you're not going to treat Americans with dignity and respect, then you're not going to treat them at all.’
Based on the reactions on their forum, many people agree with him. Personally I believe more than enough effort has already been done to find her and Dr. Phil is over the top pursuing this further. Do you think all of Aruba should be punished because of one case that can't be solved?

A lot of people feel the case was horribly handled, and I am still at a loss why the kids are not at the very very least charged with obstruction of justice. There is a girl here that is apparently dead, and the last people to see her alive have behaved very suspiciously in the aftermath. So no, I don't think enough has been done yet.

I would never go to Aruba anyhow unless someone specifically invited me, just because there are so many much more interesting places to go if I had that sort of money and time, but I don't fault people who feel that they want to send a political message in that way if they feel like it.

On the other hand, I doubt a tourist strike is going to do much to change Aruban law.

No, but the way the case was handled reveals some disturbing deficits in Aruban law enforcement that would make me very hesitant to go there for my own safety. If I had a daughter, I certainly wouldn't want her to go there.

What people need to do is realize that Dr. Phil is an idiot. The sooner they realize that he's not giving good advice, he's just giving well packaged advice the better.

His interest is not in the girl or the Aruban government. His interest is in rallying a group behind anything that it would be easy to rally others behind. Why? Because that will make them think "Dr. Phil cares. Dr. Phil knows what's important. I should buy his book/watch his show/listen to his radio interviews/give him my hard earned money so he can go vacation in some tropical paradise.
If violence is not your last resort, you have failed to resort to enough of it.

I knew if I waited and watched long enough I would find something I agreed with you about. Sometimes I think a person would have to be a masochist to call any of these public advice giving types like Dr. Laura or Dr. Phil. As often as not they just read you the riot act, tell you to straighten up and fly right, then cut to a commercial break.

    Ew

I can't even listen to five minutes of any of his shows. Especially when he tries to give anyone any advice about their children. He makes me want to scream. I think I am sometimes moved to violent thoughts.

I almost want to go to Aruba just because Dr. Phil says not to.
