I have to respect Messier for the way he went out. He played his ass off for what some would say was a few too many years (a la Jerry Rice, I suppose). This year he definitely could have chased milestones like his 700th goal, etc, but decided those sorts of pursuits weren't a good enough reason to keep playing. He should coach the Rangers now .
