Microsoft eliminates Apple
YOU can make some surprising discoveries by comparing the satellite photos displayed by Microsoft's MSN Virtual Earth with those available on Google's maps. One such discovery, as
www.theregister.co.uk has revealed, is that with its photos Microsoft has succeeded in eliminating Apple.
Compare what can be seen on Google and MSN's maps at One Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California. Google's image rightly shows the extensive, gleaming corporate headquarters of Apple Computer. But Microsoft shows an old building, a parking lot and plenty of vacant land.
What could explain this? A clue is given by the fact that when we looked, Microsoft's map was also showing the twin towers of the World Trade Center in Manhattan, offering directions how to get there and even giving a telephone number for the 68th floor.
Yes, folks. Microsoft's photos are several years older than those of Google, and a lot has changed since they were taken - including the construction of Apple's Cupertino headquarters.
