this may be an urban myth, but I thought it was pretty retarded.
I heard computer challenged people would use the open CD drawer to hold their cups of coffee.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said. But I am not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.

    an old favorite

years ago a friend who worked in tech support said he got a call from a person asking where the "anykey" was on the key board.

I used to manage our work proxy server for Internet access, and once got a request for a version upgrade to 'the Internet' as the user in question thought their current version was running too slow.

Not a myth I know it has happened.

Damn right, definitely not a myth. I worked in a computer store years ago, and had to replace a CD drive for a customer due to the cupholder misconception.

I had a fun call a few weeks ago though:

Chick: I can't get into my mail, every time I click the window flashes up and disappears real quick. I'm ready to throw my computer out the window!

Me: Hmm, look at the Escape key in the top-left corner of your keyboard, is it pushed down?

Chick: ...oh now I feel stupid. I had files laying on the keyboard.

    *facepalm*
