    Flat Panel Monitor Recommendations (LCD)

I have always been a huge fan of CRTs. I am being dragged kicking and screaming into the age of digital monitors.

But I finally had to replace my computer (it was over 3 years old) and just as with Dalaena's computer when we replaced it, the new one only has digital outputs.

I can use a converter, but that never results in a very good signal. Plus, my monitor is still doing that occasional jittery thing I've talked about before, so I think we have some serious monitor replacing to do.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for high quality LCD/flat panel monitors?

We're looking for something in the 19-21" range (hopefully 21"). I believe flat panels have more viewing area than CRTs, so with that in mind, it would be nice to at least have a flat panel with equal viewing area to a 21" CRT.

There do not seem to be clear front runners in this market and there are a LOT of crappy ones out there. I don't even know what to look for really.

All help and recommendations are much appreciated!

This will sound pretty ghetto, but it's the best experience I've ever had testing out stuff that is newer than what I have....

If you are in a University town/city/area, go to the local flea market and scope out what they have as far as technology. I say this because I have bought my last two systems and latest monitor from my own local flea market vendor...and guess from whom he buys his equipment? Desparate college students wanting party money. If mom and dad buy it, college students who pawn systems have NO clue what they are selling (either that or they don't care).

    Anyway, onto my best buys:

hp pavilion f1703 - only 17" but is awesome at high resolutions.

samsung SyncMaster 192MP silver (pc monitor and hd television) - only a 19" but I only paid $350 for it (at the flea market) and it retails for close to $800

Back around christmas time I built my dad a computer as his present. He wanted two lcd's so I found him these Samsung 213T-Black SyncMaster 21in Digital LCD Monitor I was a bit scared at the non-refundable aspect... but they ended up being quite nice. Now I just wish I had the $$$ to spend to get one myself.

Anyone know if this monitor is any good?

I have been reading some stuff on HardOCP (a super mega nerd hardware sire) and they seem to think pretty highly of Dell's displays.

At $561.75 that is not a bad price for a 20.1" LCD.

I hope I can find some other Dell coupons somewhere also.

We use Dell's at work (in the thousands) and have very little problems with them and I also find they give a nice crisp display.
Can't recall the model numbers off the top of my head though.

I have a Philips 170S5 at home and am pretty happy with that, but I would go with a Dell if I had my time over.

I've never had any problems with Dell monitors

I have a Dell as well. It's a regular monitor but with a flat screen. So much better than my old Gateway 2000 heehee!

Have never had any issues with Dell.
    GFH!
