In defense of Pyrosama, I have no problem with reading Dynetics. In many ways, people talk of Dyanetics in terms of 'heal thyself.' I see that as a generally positve part. I also think of the time a person a Hari Karishna handed me the Botiva Gita and I read part of it. Its part of learning in life.
Now, the rest of it is a pile of horse shit. What the Rotten article, which I very much enjoyed, did not touch on was this was the ultimate get rich scheme.
Hubbard realized there was a great deal of money to be made by Churches. If you look at just the finacial aspects of the churches history, they have been trying to get non-profit tax status globally for generations.
There is nothing more offensive to me than people who take advantage of the fundemental desire for all humans to know where they fit in the scheme of the universe. I am convinced that if L. Ron Hubbard had been of a mainstream faith, hollywood would have made a movie about what charalaton he was. He makes PTA's down fall at the Hands of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker look like a minor accounting error.
What he did and his followers continue to do is such a horrendous act, I only hope some day they find salvation and happiness with their inner alien.
