Lovely! With all the negative media that games are getting right now, I think this is going to be something the industry just doesn't need.

It strikes me as a pathetic attempt to a. Get attention, or b. Further their "insanity" plea. I'm not sure about the latter 'since I'm not aware of how much easier it would be on them to plea insanity in Brazil.
One thing that confuses me is a lack of immediate evidence revolving around their claim. Doesn't seem to me like anybody involved was seriously into their RP or anything. Either way, what the hell were they smoking? :\
I've read a couple of other articles that said they would try to use this to plead temporary insanity and get a reduced sentence. Wouldn't surprise me if they made up the story soley for that purpose. I've been trying to find more details than the two stories I've read are providing, no dice so far though.
Does the article mention the name of the supposed game that motivated them?
Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my Uncle Jack off a horse." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse."

That sucks. I sorta skimmed the article and though maybe I had just missed it. Apparently not.Originally posted by karahd

Must be one of those old evil TSR RP games that bleed over into real life, and not the warm and fuzzy WOTC ones.
"quod nihil sit tam infirmium aut quam fama potentiae nom sua vi nixae"
Hehehe. And no it doesn't say, but it does mention D&D a few times in one of the articles I read. It didn't make any connection to the game itself.
this is from page two,
sounds like something from the TV show Angel.
but I think these two are just thugs that are using it
to justify their actions..
not sure of a game that has policemen and demons
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But police said the game that left the Guedes family dead lasted only five hours
. Guedes assumed the role of a policeman named Flavio,
Mendes played a demon and Rodrigues was the wizard who ran the game.
Police said it wasn't clear how Guedes lost, but when he did,
the players went to the bank where Guedes cleaned out his account, withdrawing $1,745.
Guedes then helped the two others to tie up
and drug his elderly parents,Douglas and Heloisa,
and watched as both were shot in the head.
Finally, he was subjected to the same fate.
The suspects stole a computer from his house before leaving, police said.
To enthusiasts of role-playing games,
the police version is full of holes.
They say games can last for months or years
and that there are no winners and losers,
and never any betting. "
