    National Tartan Day!!

    April 6 is National Tartan Day!!

    Celebrate Scotland.
    Wear a kilt and play the bagpipes!!

    Or at least wear something plaid!!

    If you're interested in a few facts here is a small article...
    About Tartan Day

    Woodrow Wilson said of the Scots, "Every line of strength in American history is a line coloured with Scottish blood."
    The contribution of the immigrant Scots upon North America is massive and these people have remained proud of their heritage.
    Numerous groups and societies throughout Canada and America have taken the anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath (1320) as their national date to celebrate their Scottish roots

    On December 19th 1991, in response to action initiated by the Clans & Scottish Societies of Canada, the Ontario Legislature passed a resolution proclaiming April 6th as Tartan Day, following the example of other Canadian provinces.

    America followed suit on March 20th 1998, when Senate Resolution 155 (S.Res. 155), proposed by US Senate Republican majority leader Trent Lott, was passed unanimously.

    The resolution, with its preamble, is as follows:
    S. Res. 155
    Whereas April 6 has a special significance for all Americans, and especially those Americans of Scottish descent, because the Declaration of Arbroath, the Scottish Declaration of Independence, was signed on April 6, 1320 and the American Declaration of Independence was modelled on that inspirational document;
    Whereas this resolution honors the major role that Scottish Americans played in the founding of this Nation, such as the fact that almost half of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were of Scottish descent, the Governors in 9 of the original 13 States were of Scottish ancestry, Scottish Americans successfully helped shape this country in its formative years and guide this Nation through its most troubled times;
    Whereas this resolution recognizes the monumental achievements and invaluable contributions made by Scottish Americans that have led to America's preeminence in the fields of science, technology, medicine, government, politics, economics, architecture, literature, media, and visual and performing arts;
    Whereas this resolution commends the more than 200 organizations throughout the United States that honor Scottish heritage, tradition, and culture, representing the hundreds of thousands of Americans of Scottish descent, residing in every State, who already have made the observance of Tartan Day on April 6 a success;
    Whereas these numerous individuals, clans, societies, clubs, and fraternal organizations do not let the great contributions of the Scottish people go unnoticed:
    Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Senate designates April 6 of each year as "National Tartan Day."

    SCOTLAND TAKES OVER MANHATTEN

    Scotland will take centre stage in New York this weekend as the Tartan Day events come to a climax.

    The main activity will be the Tunes of Glory Parade down Manhattan's 6th Avenue involving several thousand pipers and drummers. Building on the success of last year's events the aim is to strengthen the links between Scotland and America and to develop and enhance trade links through a showcase of Scottish culture.

    A series of promotional activities have taken place on the lead up to Tartan Day. These have included the publishing of one million special inserts in the New York Times, the branding of the New York subway stations and a subway car, and
    wrapping an open-topped double-decker bus in tartan.
    That is so cool!!! I want to ride in a plaid wrapped bus!!

    Clan Lindsay

    Long live Clan Lindsay!

    Our clan motto, which appears on our clan crest, is "Endure Fort," which means "Endure bravely." Although it is sometimes translated as "Endure strongly", the Earl of Crawford has clarified that the correct translation is "Endure bravely."

    Our lovely green and burgundy tartan, shown in the background, is one of the more popular tartans. When traveling in Scotland, one often sees everything from sweaters to golf shoe bags to place mats for sale in three tartans: Royal Stewart, Black Watch, and Lindsay. We are proud of our beautiful tartan, and are always happy to see it worn by Clan Lindsay members and nonmembers alike.

    I derive (on one side of my family) from the Affleck Sept(Hereditary Armor Bearers to the Earls of Crawford).

    My clan, MacArthur

    A Gaelic Proverb has it that: “there is nothing older than the Hills, MacArthur and the Devil.”
    The MacArthurs are Celts. A tribe of our clan were hereditary pipers to the MacDonalds of the Isles. Our clan is a branch of the Clan Campbell. We aided Robert the Bruce, from whom we received the forfeited estates of the MacDougall. In current time the family seat of the MacArthurs of Stachur is on Loch Awe side. Our most famous MacArthur in America is General Douglas MacArthur. John MacArthur made an impact in the 18th century. He took his regiment to Australia and built up the colony of New South Wales, and its great industries of wool and wine.

    The MacArthur badge is wild myrtle and our slogan on our coat of arms is “Eisd! O Eisd!” (Listen! Oh Listen!)

    The tartan I’m wearing today is vibrant forest green with black and yellow. The MacArthur Tartan is very close to the Black Watch.
    That yellow stripe makes all the difference!

    (I tried to add a picture of my tartan, but I'm not as smart as Dhelta)
