Unlucky, or was it a Killer Shark?

I know a lot of people dive for recreation or as a part of their work, and for the most part they never encounter difficultys with the righful denizens of the deep.

However, as so aptly shown by the shark attack on the Charter boat skipper this weekend just gone off the Abrohlos Islands. Do we really have a right to be outraged when a 'dumb' animal eats a human intruding on its turf?

How many old white pointers will get killed over this one? I mean you can't identify the killer until you cut it open.. and cutting open sharks is generally fatal.

FYI A White Pointer is a Great White shark, deep ocean nomadic species that grows up to 8m (24ft) long.

Sure we have a right to be outraged.

It would be silly to be outraged, but we certainly have a RIGHT to be.

I think this is not a matter of rights though.

When you go into the domain of another predator, you are taking a risk. Usually, it is a small risk.

I definitely think it would be a shame if there is wholesale slaughter of sharks in response to this. What point is there to recovering the remains anyway?

It would be different if there was a shark or sharks that had decided a certain popular human area was a good feeding grounds. There certainly is no evidence of that yet.

seems foolish to kill a shark for being a shark.
I spend a lot of time in the mountains. I'm always aware that I could come across a bear and possibly her cubs (personally, I think the bears do this on purpose for kicks, but it's just a theory... )

It's just one of the risks I take and accept out there.

You want to swim with sharks, fine, go swim in the waters that contain them, but if you get chewed and swallowed, make sure your family/diving buddy, knows not to get all uppity and trigger happy.

If you don't wanna get bit, don't go tickle the shark's tummies.

To prove that it really was a shark killed him. If there's reasonable doubt, and there's a chance he was murdered and a shark blamed, it would be worthwhile. But if nobody disagrees, it seems pretty pointless.
