    Juvenile Body Image

When I read this in the paper yesterday, I thought it was an Australian kid, so I did some digging around. As it happens it wasn't an aussie kid, the article was about the study. But sheesh!

Flinders University did a study whose results were published yesterday.. I'll find some exact figures and put them up.

    How is this for screwy?

Details are fairly difficult to come across right now, but come on.. when body image is a concern for a six year old, don't you think the whole thing has gotten a smidge out of hand?

The Flinders Uni study was yesterday.. the cutting thing was something that turned up when I was looking for the results on the net so I could post them up..

I should just type up the results and pass them about.

80 girls between 5 and 8 were selected.

47% said they would like to be thinner to be more popular.
45% said they would diet to get thinner.

I'll edit my original.. bit misleading.. thanks Aelyn

Shadarach, just to let you know that as the article says, the girl was from Southampton, which is not in Scotland but in England.

Totally agree, this cult to the body is crazy. They say that fat people will be the marginalised of the future.

Damn, I couldn't fix the thread title.

However, talking about the cult of body thing was what the objective was. I'm not a dad, or whatever, so I'm not familiar with having six year old girls. But it seems to me that six year olds now are like fifteen year olds used to be.

Television and people like the Olsen twins, who would likely blow away in a stiff breeze.
