Besides, as a nation we love kicking the crap out of each other in sports. The WWF sells out EVERYTIME it has a show, and it's not even a sport. For those kinds of fans, fighting is about all they would ever watch hockey for.
Kind of like Romans butchering Christians in the Colosseum? Let's face it. Mankind has always been enthralled by bloodshed, violence, aggression. Since the beginning of civilization entertainment has come in the form of gladiators. Maybe by a different name. But it's always been brutal and bloody. Let's face it. If it weren't for regulations football players would be running around without pads on doing what they do. Or they'd have spikes on their shoulderpads. Something would be there to make it more violent than it already is.
Not saying that's good or bad. But it's something to think about.
