Alan Keyes tosses daughter out because she's gay

I have never liked or respected this guy. He never ceases to disgust:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/...in673732.shtml

The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.

    ...

Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."

    ...

Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.

Judging from the results of november's election, this will probably cause his popularity to increase (fortunately, he's such a fucktard that he doesn't have much support as it is).

I followed the link from that article to her blog here and was appalled to read of her friend Shymmer. That this kind of horror continues on a daily basis is tragic. Inexcusable. Kudos to Dick Cheney for proving that not all conservatives are total evil monsters when it comes to their kids not fitting the mold.

Newt Gingrich is another. In fact, I believe his sister (who is gay) has served as his campaign manager in the past (don't quote me!).

I'm going to play devil's advocate here.

Have her parents publically stated this is why she was kicked out?I just want to say that there are two sides to every story, and this news item only seems to give hers. Perhaps there were other reasons, other aggravations and the fact that she's a lesbian was just the icing on the cake, so to speak.

In support of the above, I read this on CNN.com
Marcel-Keyes told several hundred supporters that her sexuality had created a rift in her relationship with her parents.

"Things just came to a head. Liberal queer plus conservative Republican just doesn't mesh well," she said. "That was making my life a little bit turbulent."

Later, Marcel-Keyes told CNN her parents "were not too pleased" when they learned she was a lesbian, but she said she loves them "very much, and they love me. They can't support my activities."
Also in regards to Keyes "attacking" Cheney's daughter, apparently he was on a Gay and Lesbian-focused talk show and stated "The essence of ... family life remains procreation. If we embrace homosexuality as a proper basis for marriage, we are saying that it's possible to have a marriage state that in principal excludes procreation and is based simply on the premise of selfish hedonism." The interviewer then asked if that made Mary Cheney a selfish hedonist, to which Keyes replied that by what he'd just said, she was.

So while I don't necessarily support Keyes' views or politics, I think it's important to investigate when stories have been twisted to seem more shocking than they actually are. Which, it seems, has happened to Keyes with both the Mary Cheney matter (he didn't bring her up) and with his daughter.
